Infrared Sauna Benefits Are Almost Too Numerous to Name

Infrared saunas and infrared sauna benefits seem to be a hot topic of discussion these days. For those who are health-conscious, infrared saunas provide a more comfortable environment than traditional, or Finnish, saunas. But what's so special about infrared sauna benefits that are making them increasingly popular?

In a nutshell, infrared saunas heat the body through infrared radiant heat. If you've ever walked into a room and turned on the light and the light warmed your body, you have experienced infrared radiant heat -- it is entirely safe. Traditional saunas can reach temperatures over 170 degrees, which is almost unbearable to the human body. Infrared saunas heat your body directly through radiant energy, meaning that while it is hot, it is not too hot.

Infrared sauna benefits include:

weight loss: You lose body weight by sweating, but that is not the main feature of infrared sauna weight loss. Since the radiant heat is essentially the same type of heat emitted by the sun (without the ultraviolet rays), infrared saunas can speed up your metabolic process if used regularly.

Heart Health and Circulatory Benefits: Due to the radiant heat directed towards your body, your blood circulation and heart rate are drastically increased. The key to a healthy heart and body is keeping your heart rate at a steady, high pace (but not too high, obviously).

Pain Relief: Due to the increased heart rate and blood circulation in the heat, blood flow is increased towards the extremities of your body. People all around the world have experienced great relief from arthritis, pulled muscles, and sprains in infrared saunas. It's amazing what a little direct heat can do.

Improved Skin Health: Nutrients are brought out towards your skin, again thanks to the increased blood circulation. Infrared saunas can give you that healthy glow that sometimes seems to hard to grasp.

Stress Relief and Relaxation: Saunas are always a relief, whether it be a traditional or infrared sauna. Specifically with infrared saunas, as you can stay in the sauna longer than you could with a traditional sauna because it is not so hot and the air is not so stuffy. Either way, your muscles loosen up and in turn, so does your mind. A relaxing time in a sauna can wash all of your physical and mental pains away.

The infrared sauna benefits are numerous. And if you are interested in staying in the best physical and mental condition possible, try spending some time in an infrared sauna and see how the benefits will work for you. Millions of people all across the world are discovering the effects of infrared saunas -- from weight loss to stress relief -- and you could be one of them.

Diet Tip # 1 from the family

Diet Tip # 1 from the family

-I just want to talk a little about my aspect of the diet. Rebecca had been talking to me about wanting to go on a diet. When she first started talking about it I thought she might do it, but I’ve also hear so many people say the same thing, all I felt I could do was hope for the best.

-She started focusing on the topic of diets and learning about each one and how they worked. I felt she was trying to find a diet that sounded like something she could do. After a few days she told me she had found a diet that sounded good for her. She told me she thinking about ordering a months supply of this stuff. I thought oh boy! How much does it cost? It was well over $200.

-This was her thing from the beginning, so I was going to support her. I told her to go for it, and Jordan and I would fend for ourselves. We were used to Rebecca feeding us. And this diet meant we were going to have to give up the junk food too. I was still ok with it and so was Jordan.

-A few days later the box came with all the food in it. It was on. Jordan and I went shopping for a bunch of frozen foods. We did have to clear the junk food out of the house, but that wasn’t too hard considering it didn’t last long to begin with.

-Jordan and I feeding ourselves allowed Rebecca to focus on her diet. I think this went a long way in her success of the diet.

-After she had been on the diet for a few months, she was more comfortable with Jordan and I having some snack foods around. What we learned was that if we bought foods she didn’t like to begin with, it was that much less tempting to her.

5 Simple Tips to Healthier Eating

It seems there's always a new diet treatment hitting the market, or talk of a magic pill that will eliminate fat. Whether you choose to partake in any of these new treatments or not, it's wise to remember the basics of healthy eating.

Just what is "healthy eating?" Is it only fruits and vegetables? Is it never eating sugar? It is eating only organic foods? Well, to some people, that is healthy eating. But, for the purposes of this article, when I refer to healthy eating I'm referring to balancing the food you eat to stay healthy. By keeping your diet balanced, you'll find you are giving your body the vitamins and minerals it needs to stay strong. This in turn gives you energy and helps you maintain a healthy weight.

What are some basic tips for healthy eating?

1. Don't skip any meals

That might sound odd to some people who believe you can only lose weight when you eat less. But, in fact, skipping meals is not healthy, and can actually keep you from maintaining your desired weight. Why? Well, one reason is that your metabolism increases when you eat. And, when the metabolism is increased, you burn more energy. Eating 3 meals with snacks in between is the ideal way to maintain both energy and a healthy weight. What's that, you say, a snack in between? That's right; a snack in between smaller meals is actually good for you. First, it can help you not feel so hungry at meals. And, when you don't feel so hungry at meals, you tend not to eat as much. And, second, eating 5 smaller meals a day helps prevent the large spikes and drops in your blood sugar associated with fewer meals a day.

2. Chew slowly

This advice may seem a bit corny, but it makes sense. When you wolf down your food you aren't giving your brain time to register when you’re full, which takes about 20 minutes. By the time you finally get the signal it's too late and you've eaten far more than you needed to. Therefore, if you chew your food slowly it slows down your eating.

3. Learn how to prepare foods

Instead of deep frying, try grilling, stir frying, microwaving, baking, boiling and, in the case of vegetables - raw. And, if you really insist on using butter for cooking, try a butter substitute. I use a yogurt butter which is half the fat of regular butter, but tastes the same as real butter. If you use butter to add flavor to food, try something else for a change, like lemon, vinegar or dried herbs and spices. Before you eat any type of meat, be sure to trim it of fat and skin.

4. Avoid alot of sugar

If you can eliminate sugar, good for you, but, if you can't, at least cut down. Drinks that contain sugar are a major source of empty calories. If you plan to drink sugary drinks, don't go overboard - limit yourself to one a day.

5. Skip the diet foods

If you follow healthy eating guidelines, there's really no need to buy prepared diet foods. A good number of these foods contain chemicals and additives that can be counterproductive to a healthy diet. A healthy portion of "real" food beats a heaping of prepared diet food any day, and doesn't leave you feeling deprived.

Eating healthier doesn't have to be difficult. The key is to be mindful of what and how you’re eating. Noticing is the first step in changing behavior.

Weight Training Do's and Dont's

Over the years I have observed thousands of people training in almost every kind of gym. Watching someone work out, it is simple to almost instantly evaluate the level of their experience. Advanced lifters are easy to spot by their intensity and attention to form and focus. Intermediate trainees show signs of progress although they are often found chatting around the squat rack.

In the third and largest group are beginners and usually they are completely lost. They don't understand the principles of resistance training, don't have a plan and don't know how to perform the basic movements. They go haphazardly through the motions, flirt with injury, see minimal improvement and usually drop out.

IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY! The fundamental principles of weight training are simple. Here are the top five that will take you a long way toward becoming lean, strong and fit.

1. FORM AND FUNCTION. You have to understand the movement and the purpose of each exercise. Books or online videos are good learning tools if you pay attention to the details. Forget about the "muscle mags". The quickest way to get off to a good start is to hire an experienced certified personal trainer who is willing to teach you how to lift. With each exercise, make sure you understand exactly which muscles you are training and learn to feel them work.

2. SLOW DOWN. This is related to form but deserves special attention. Throughout the entire exercise, you must be in complete control of the weight. Most trainees perform the movements too quickly. When you swing a heavy weight out of control you increase the risk of injury, but you also allow inertia to do the work instead of fully challenging the muscle.

TEMPO is important. Because most trainees use a weight that is too heavy, they perform the exercises with rushed and jerky movements. SLOW DOWN. A good norm is to lower the weight to a count of three (3), raise powerfully to a count of one (1) and pause in the contracted position for a one (1) count before lowering again. This can be expressed as a 3.1.1 cadence.

3. COMPOUND EXERCISES. Trash your body building magazines that show champions doing hundreds of bicep curls and focus on exercises that develop full-body strength and conditioning. Additionally, most people are concerned with burning calories and losing weight. This is done by emphasizing basic, compound exercises. These are the ones that work the body's largest muscle groups in conjunction with one another.

Primary muscles are the quadriceps, hamstrings, gluteus, back, chest and shoulders. The primary compound exercises are squats, deadlifts, bench presses, rowing and overhead presses. DO NOT waste time doing isolation exercises for biceps, triceps, forearms and the individual small muscles of the shoulder. These are worked adequately as part of the large compound movements.

4. USE THE CORRECT WEIGHT. Beginners use too little weight and then, if they are bold, progress to using weights that are too heavy. The definition of the correct weight is one that challenges you to work VERY HARD on the last repetition of your exercise but allows you to do so in PERFECT FORM. If the weight is too light you will not overload the muscle sufficiently to stimulate growth. If the weight is too heavy you will cheat, swinging and swaying and allowing inertia to do the work for you.

5. EXERCISE PERSISTENCE AND PATIENCE. All good things are earned and take time. PERSISTENCE says that consistency is critical and that you will see real results in about twelve weeks ifÂ…. you DON'T SKIP WORKOUTS and if you challenge yourself to work hard during every session.

BE PATIENT and resist trying every red-hot workout you read about. Most of them are nothing more than variations of basic programs. Give your current routine a chance to work. Patience also says that more is not necessarily better. You need at least forty-eight hours rest between weight workouts and when you are stronger you may need seventy-two hours or more to recover. Remember that plenty of rest and a diet of fresh, unprocessed food provides a foundation for all of your hard work.

Resistance training is the fastest way to lose weight, change your body shape, increase strength and improve your health. You can do it if you learn to make a sport out of it (or better yet, a game). Take the time to learn proper technique, apply a high degree of vigor to every workout and see just how good you can get.

And always rememberÂ… "Be StrongÂ…. Be Lean".

The Connection Between Fitness and Singles

What's the connection between dating and singles? It seems like gyms are often popular places to meet people, and fitness singles sites are cropping up to satisfy the needs and wants of online daters looking for partners to workout with and romance at the same time. Is there a significant connection between the fitness industry and single life?

One possible explanation for the connections made between fellow gym-goers is the desire to find like minded people who enjoy active lifestyles and staying in shape. Certainly, a part of this is a greater appreciation in general for people who are physically fit. While this is a broad generalization, it may be safe to assume that most people who want to keep themselves in shape also want that from their partner. For this reason, gyms attract like minded people, with similar lifestyles. Also, as has been proven by several psychological studies, similarity and proximity increase the likelihood of attraction. Therefore, if two people run into each other on a regular basis, and see each other participating in activities they both enjoy, the chances of meeting and making a connection are more likely.

Another psychological explanation may come from biological and neurological studies. Chemicals released into the brain during exercise are often associated with feelings of euphoria. These feelings are commonly seen as responsible for a 'runners high' that many consistent exercisers experience. As these feelings of euphoria are experienced, people are conditioned to associate those positive feelings with other stimulus that surround them. Like Pavlov's Classically conditioned dogs, a person who see something (like another attractive person) while experiencing a positive emotion (a runners high) begin associating these two things together. Eventually, people begin attributing their positive feelings to that person (he/she makes me feel good). As a result, many singles who are heavily into the fitness lifestyle, and regularly visit the gym, may begin to pair their positive feelings with other fit singles they see at their gym.

While these explanations may only be a part of the reason why singles and fitness are frequently paired together, ultimately, there is some sort of connection between the two. Whether these stem from psychological reasons or the desire to seek out other physically attractive or fit people, fitness and singles are frequently paired, and with good reason.

The Health Aspects Of Chocolate

Chocolate is relaxing. It’s calming. It soothes our nerves and makes us feel good. And we often think of it as a sinful indulgence. But it doesn’t have to be. If you choose your chocolate wisely, you can enjoy it without the guilty feelings we normally associate with it.

What Are the Healthy Aspects of Chocolate?

By eating small amounts of the right chocolate, you will enjoy the many health aspects of chocolate. Chocolate contains high levels of potassium and magnesium, as well as vitamins B1, B2, D and E. If that’s not reason enough to reach for a daily dose of chocolate, consider that it can also lower blood pressure and prevent arteries from hardening, therefore protecting the heart.

Has Chocolate Been Wrongly Accused?

For the most part, chocolate has been wrongly accused. New studies are finding that common beliefs about the effects of chocolate are not true after all. While we used to associate chocolate with acne, researchers have now dismissed a possible link between the two. While some people avoided chocolate because of the caffeine level associated with it, we now know that a small serving only contains as much caffeine as a cup of decaffeinated coffee. Does chocolate really cause migraines? Well, only if consumed in large amounts. Again, moderation plays a big role here.

So before you reach for a Hershey bar of a Snicker’s, consider that the chocolate you eat should contain 70% cocoa. This can be found specifically in dark chocolates. You should invest in a quality dark chocolate and eat it in small amounts every day to see the health benefits. Make sure you enjoy each bite and let it melt in your mouth. It will have the same effect as the recommended single glass of wine per day.

What Kind of Chocolate Offers The Most Health Aspects?

True cocoa is the best chocolate to eat for health reasons. Not only will it satisfy your sweet tooth, but it will also provide health aspects beyond what many of us dreamed possible. The recommendation is to eat two small squares of chocolate per day. We’re not talking about a typical candy bar here. Dark chocolate contains higher levels of cocoa and lower level of milk and sugar.

Choosing Wisely

The best varieties of chocolate are more expensive and are dark or bittersweet. Good chocolate should only have a few ingredients on the contents label. In addition, you can buy organic chocolate or make your own homemade chocolate with a cocoa base.

Healthy Chocolate Snacks

There are some easy ways to get in your daily dose of heart-healthy chocolate. Try a steamy cup of hot cocoa, fruit dipped dark in chocolate, chocolate covered almonds or eat the squares of chocolate by themselves.

Chocolate in Moderation

Hearing that chocolate has health aspects does not mean we can load up our grocery carts with chocolate bars though. It is important to adhere to the daily-recommended dose since it is high in calories. Moderation is a key factor here. Balance your caloric intake with a variety of other heart-healthy foods and reach for the dark chocolate as a cure for your sweet tooth sparingly.
